This podcast introduces the highlights of The Drive to Learn: What the East Asian Experience Tells Us about Raising Students Who Excel.  Like the book, this podcast covers how Japanese and Chinese parents think about and guide their offspring during their first years of life.

How East Asian children are raised at home is half of the explanation for why, since the late 1960s, their performance on the international comparative tests has always been superior to that of their American peers.  The other half of the explanation concerns the teaching of those children in preschool and primary schools.  This is covered in Grove’s sister podcast, available at the podcast page of Grove’s book, A Mirror for Americans.

This podcast was developed for the International Academy of Intercultural Research, a worldwide association of intercultural scholars, of which Cornelius Grove became a Charter Member when IAIR was founded in 1997.
